St. Hyacinth and Virgin

Text Box: O God , you are my God-
For you I long!
For you my body yearns;
For you my soul thirsts,
Like a land parched, lifeless,
And without water.
So I look to you in the sanctuary
To see your power and glory.
For your love is better than life
My lips offer you worship?

St. Hyacinth’s Catholic Church

Our patron, St. Hyacinth, whose feast day is on August 17th, is venerated as the Apostle of Poland.  In his native country of Poland he was also know as Saint Jacek.  He was born in Poland in 1185 and died on the Feast of the Assumption in 1257.  He joined the Dominican Order in 1219 and, according to Church History, was undoubtedly a great missionary.

He traveled and preached the Catholic Faith to the people of Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia and China.

Saint Hyacinth held great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and through her intervention brought many people back to the Sacraments.

The Spanish translation of his name is San Jacinto which is the area in northwest Amarillo that constitutes a large part of the parish.
